This year's spring conference is to be held in the iconic venue of the King’s Building on the Strand, London. Built between 1829 and 1831, the King’s Building is Grade I listed and sits beside the Courtauld Gallery and Somerset House (once home to the registrations of all births, deaths and marriages in England).
The Gala Dinner to celebrate our 50th year will be held in The Great Hall, designed by Sir Robert Smirke, who also designed Somerset House. It is accessed through the King's Building Foyer which holds two statues – Sappho and Sophocles with symbolise the King’s motto or ‘Holiness and Wisdom’).

Day ONE - Thursday 7 May
The conference will commence with an overview of Minimally interventive Operative Care (MIOC) and how it relates to the care of individuals with Special Care Needs by Professor Avijit Banerjee. Avi is a phenomenal speaker and I an sure we will all take away something we can apply in our practice.
Following this I am delighted to announce that we will be hearing from Dr Nishma Shah, a truly inspiring speaker who will challenge us with her discussion of ‘Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Dentistry’. Having heard Nishma give a similar talk, I was determined to introduce her insights to our community.
In the afternoon of Thursday 7 May we will hear from the Spires Cleft Centre and Oxford Craniofacial Unit, which comprises a team with complementary specialist skills. We will hear an overview of the care pathway for individuals with cleft lip and palate, the role of speech therapy, ENT surgery, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Psychology and of course the Dental Specialities. Most importantly we will also have the opportunity to learn from a patient who has experienced the care pathway.

50th Anniversary Gala Dinner
We hope you will join us for our Gala Dinner on the Evening of the 7 May. We will start with drinks in the King’s Building Foyer, and the opportunity to mingle with other members of the audience and catch up with friends and colleagues.
Once seated in the Great Hall, we will be served a three course meal which has been created in a sustainable way – the King’s Root-To-Tip initiative.
Following enjoying good food with good company, there will be the opportunity to enjoy live music.
The fee for the three course dinner including wine (or non alcoholic equivalent) and entertainment is £110.
The dress code is 'smart' but not black tie.
Day TWO - Friday 8 May
On Friday 8 May we commence with a talk from Dr Jason Wong, Chief Dental Officer (England) who will be discussing the implications for Special Care Dentistry of the 10 year NHS plan and the three key shifts: transitioning from hospital-based care to community care, moving from analogue to digital services, and shifting focus from treating sickness to prevention.
After celebrating the successes of our Audit Prize and Clinical Prize winners we will be given a description of multi-disciplinary working in the Management of Dental Phobia from the Dental Psychology Service team at Guy’s & St Thomas. Pioneers in CBT for Dental Phobia the team will describe their work and their close collaboration with dental teams.
